Orlando Pirates are preparing to make history at South African Fashion Week (SAFW), becoming the first Premier Soccer League (PSL) club reported to participate in the fashion showcase.

The Buccaneers are scheduled to feature in Field to Fashion on 24 October 2026 at The Forum, Hyde Park Corner, Johannesburg, as part of SAFW’s Autumn/Winter 2027 programme.

The showcase brings together sport, personal style and South African design, highlighting the growing relationship between football and fashion.

But why does this matter?

Football has always been part of South African culture, influencing everything from streetwear and music to the way supporters express their identity. For Orlando Pirates, whose iconic black-and-white colours are instantly recognisable, this appearance creates an opportunity to bring football culture into a new creative space.

The club has previously explored this relationship through its 2023/24 jersey collaboration with South African designer Thebe Magugu and adidas.

Its participation in SAFW could further strengthen the connection between local fashion and one of the country’s biggest sporting institutions, while introducing football supporters to South African designers.

Beyond the runway, this is a reminder that fashion is not just about clothes. It is about identity, culture and the stories we choose to wear.
